Article by the RAU Department of Economics and Finance Published in the Journal Studies on Russian Economic Development

A new research paper by the faculty of the Department of Economics and Finance of the Russian-Armenian University has been published. The article, titled “Analysis and Assessment of Channels for Impact of the Russian Economy on the Macroeconomic Environment of Armenia,” appeared in the journal Studies on Russian Economic Development (#Scopus, Q3) and was prepared in collaboration with the Institute of Economic Forecasting of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

The authors of the paper are RAU Rector, Doctor of Economics (Armenia and Russia), Professor Eduard Sandoyan; Director of the Institute of Economic Forecasting of RAS, Professor, Doctor of Economics Alexander Shirov; Head of the Department of Economics and Finance of RAU, Associate Professor, Doctor of Economics Mariam Voskanyan; and Associate Professor of the Department of Economics and Finance of RAU, Candidate of Economic Sciences Ani Galstyan.

The study, “Analysis and Assessment of Channels for Impact of the Russian Economy on the Macroeconomic Environment of Armenia,” is devoted to examining the key channels through which the Russian economy has influenced Armenia’s macroeconomic environment over recent decades. The authors identify the main benefits and potential risks for the country’s economic growth, highlight the primary drivers of growth, and describe the mechanisms through which the Russian economy affects them.

The main conclusion of the study is that Armenia’s economy is significantly dependent on the volatility of the Russian economy. The most critical channel of influence is private money transfers, whose impact on the country’s macroeconomic dynamics shows signs of chronic “Dutch disease.”

It should be noted that the research was carried out within the framework of scientific project No. 25YR-5B020 with the financial support of the Committee of Science of the Republic of Armenia.
